The end and start

I witness death in my painting and draw graves.
The end and start.
I write down the name of the paintings, the date of death, or the text to be buried.
In the shroud series, I dress dead paintings with a shroud.
In the headache series, I talk about headaches.

The Way to Heaven

I have been working toward creating a single scenery reflecting this era by shifting between truth and lies, those that were stolen, and those that were affected. ‘The Way to Heaven’ is just one of those series, and it is a fiction novel.

(Psychiatric Hospital)
What do you mean Mini Mouse is dead? She hung herself with a large ribbon?
Lies. Lies. I don’t believe anything you say.
Why are you lying to me? I’m not an idiot.
Get out of my sight.
What do you mean Micky Mouse is dead? He hung himself with Mini Mouse’s leg?
Lies. Lies. I don’t believe anything you say.
Why are you lying to me? I’m not an idiot.

That’s right.
I’m the killer.
People living with childlike innocence all go insane in this world.
Things like that all need to die and disappear.
Crazy things that can only live in cartoons.
Crazy things that can only laugh in cartoons.

The sky is blue and people are going round and round.
They‘re going round and round, drawing a circle.
The wall is white and people are going round and round.
They‘re going round and round, drawing a circle.
I‘m also following them, going round and round.
I‘m going round and round, drawing a circle.

The murdered innocence are going to heaven.
Going to heaven is synonymous with death. The only certainty in our lives is that we are all heading towards death. I am filling anger, rage, happiness, sadness, disappointment and other human emotions and stories met on the difficult road called life with the scenery seen through my eyes, cartoon characters losing their innocence, and texts being completed through the experiences and stories of the audience. Micky and Mini Mouse of the above story represent the childlike innocence within the main character, with the story ending with him/her murdering, one by one, the childlike innocence remaining within.

Trust me

The theme I work with is “Trust me.” I deal with the issue of “I don't believe" in art. I draw a variety of humor while moving back and forth between truths and lies and between what is stolen and what is influenced. There includes many series in ”Trust me“. This series is unraveled in various ways which, for example, I unraveled with sexual humor in the “Trust me” Series while depicting the itemization of lies in front of the cross in “the Pseudo Series”. “The Stolen Series” encompassed the stealing and reconstructing the images of others with the concept of “stolen.” and “the Liar Liar Series” employed a text work that moves back and forth between truths and lies. For conceptual works, “the Brainless Series” finds humor through brainless works and “the Go Fuck Yourself Series” expressed, “I am a conceptual art. Are you fucking with me? Go fuck yourself."

Painting Surgery

"Painting Surgery" was initiated from my doubt and the perspective of criticism on myself and my paitningts as an author .
We should remind that ultimately, the work of Choi Woon Hyoung is designed to cast the doubts on the sincere attitude on the paintings..”1)
The works made by Choi Woon Hyung from 2015 to early 2016 were created by using the production behaviors/expression technique, which contain the behaviors of literally cutting, parting, gouging, removing, taking out, pasting, sawing and suturing the parts in the paintings. For him, the behaviors themselves were the aesthetic form and quality of his paintings.
As his painting can only be described by the above verbs, his painting can be aesthetically and hierarchically linked to the avant garde strategy in the arts.
His behaivors are the anti-aesthetics and/or anti-art behaviors by which he tried to protest against the conventional practices but pursue for new things. He shows the artistic experiments as shown often by the avant garde artists. 2)

Monster

It's a story about a woman becoming a monster.
I am interested in how the sexuality, gender, and racial discrimination by power would position the modern men in the world. The conflict and tension between people are a good motif for my work.
I play a role of being a schizophrenic woman who detests the power of the penis and its absurd history and work on getting rid of it. By doing that I'm saying my understanding of painting as a fiction.
I do it happily as children play in the playground. I also collect the worst penises and put them into an aquarium as if they are pets and let them live there. I conduct the event to stuff the castrated penises as they are shown in “stuffed animal”. At the same time I show her experience as a woman in the past like violent sex and male's attack against females using sexual language.
I make up stories about her with my effort to understand her. She is a main character in my fiction.
After all, the work place of the monster is exposed to the world. The monster and her assistances commit a suicide.
